Dental check-up

Teeth cleaning

X-ray

The frequency of check ups is very individual, some patients can cope with a two year period between visits, whereas other patients may require an inspection visit maybe every three months

During a check-up, the dentist looks for disease in the tooth tissue, e.g. cavities or old fillings that can no longer hold tightly. The dentist inspects the health of your gums and jawbone, which has to be healthy because it keeps the teeth in place. It is important that you and the dentist determine how you best maintain oral health, so that your teeth can last a lifetime.
The dentist also performs an inspection of the jaw joint, muscles and mucous membranes.

Occasionally, the dentist assesses that there is a need to supplement the check-up with X-ray images.

The vast majority of people will develop dental plaque despite thorough oral hygiene. Therefore, regular teeth cleaning at the dentist is often necessary. During a teeth cleaning, the dentist makes a percentage assessment of bleeding, the amount of plaque and the size of gum pockets. These parameters are important for assessing how often you need to visit the clinic, so that together with the dentist you can work out an oral hygiene regime that is optimized for you.

We keep track of our appointments  with you in our clinic, so that you are automatically notified when the time approaches.
It may be that you need to arrange the new time for the next appointment before you leave the clinic, of course you always have that option.

How do I achieve good oral hygiene?

In order to have a healthy body, it is a prerequisite that you also have a healthy mouth.

Good oral hygiene requires regular removal of plaque.
A good toothbrush is a soft brush. It is the most gentle on both teeth and gums, so you avoid grinding damage to both teeth and gums. The electric brush is best as the rotations are designed to ensure the bristles penetrate better into difficult places. As an adult, the focus must be on the gum line and on the tooth surfaces that face each other. Tooth brushing should be performed at least twice a day, preferably more. Toothbrushing must be supplemented with dental floss because the surfaces that are in contact with each other cannot be reached completely by the toothbrush.

We would recommend the flat waxed dental-floss.
Interspace brushes can also be used if the dentist has recommended that you need to supplement with these. This is the advice we give to patients who have periodontitis. But if there are no signs of this, dental floss is the most gentle solution.

For an ordinary person, there will be four types of different x-rays.

Bitewings: As a rule, two overview x-rays are taken that can show us if there is an anomaly in the crown of the tooth, for example in connection with a filling or under a crown or right where the teeth meet. These areas cannot be seen by us when we examine the oral cavity, so we need these recordings at the slightest suspicion. They can also show us if something is happening in the bone edge around the teeth.

Apical recording: Usually a single image that shows us a single tooth in its entire extent. This image is taken if we suspect that there is something wrong with the root of the tooth.

Panorama: This is an overview picture which can show us the major lines, for example the location and direction of the wisdom teeth.

How the teeth are standing in relation to each other. The general state of health of the teeth.

CBCT scan: If we need to perform surgery, you will find that we occasionally need this type, as it can show us a cross-section of bone and tooth.
